چکیده

We consider the spread of an epidemic through a population divided into n sub-populations, in which individuals can move between populations and infectives can only make infections with members of their current population. Attention is focussed upon the effect of the distribution of the infectious period on the probability that the epidemic goes extinction in the limit as the total population size N → ∞ . Infectious periods comprising the sum of exponential random variables are considered. For this wide class of infectious periods it is shown that the probability of extinction of the epidemic process for a fixed mean infectious period is maximised by an exponentially distributed infectious period, and minimised by an infectious period of constant length.

A Disease Outbreak Prediction Model Using Bayesian Inference: A Case of Influenza

Introduction: One major problem in analyzing epidemic data is the lack of data and high dependency among the available data, which is due to the fact that the epidemic process is not directly observable. Methods: One method for epidemic data analysis to estimate the desired epidemic parameters, such as disease transmission rate and recovery rate, is data ...

The basic reproduction number and the probability of extinction for a dynamic epidemic model.

We consider the spread of an epidemic through a population divided into n sub-populations, in which individuals move between populations according to a Markov transition matrix Σ and infectives can only make infectious contacts with members of their current population. Expressions for the basic reproduction number, R₀, and the probability of extinction of the epidemic are derived. It is shown t...

Spatial General Epidemic Model

The general consideration in Spatial General Epidemic Model is controlling the propagation of the disease starting from an infected individual. By a suitable control process, this epidemic can be rooted out. Here, we suggest the control process using the percolation probability to be attached with the formation of edges having the suitable probabilities, giving the random graphs which will expl...

Reproduction numbers and thresholds in stochastic epidemic models. I. Homogeneous populations.

We compare threshold results for the deterministic and stochastic versions of the homogeneous SI model with recruitment, death due to the disease, a background death rate, and transmission rate beta cXY/N. If an infective is introduced into a population of susceptibles, the basic reproduction number, R0, plays a fundamental role for both, though the threshold results differ somewhat. For the de...

Extinction Times of Epidemic Outbreaks in Networks

In the Susceptible-Infectious-Recovered (SIR) model of disease spreading, the time to extinction of the epidemics happens at an intermediate value of the per-contact transmission probability. Too contagious infections burn out fast in the population. Infections that are not contagious enough die out before they spread to a large fraction of people. We characterize how the maximal extinction tim...
